US Senator John Cornyn spoke to a gathering of community members today on the University of Houston-Victoria Campus.  The event was sponsored by the Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Victoria Economic Development Corporation.  Senator Cornyn spoke on issues ranging from immigration to the war in Iraq.  He also commented on the recent flooding that most of the state has been experiencing.

Senator Cornyn talked of border security and how it was necessary before comprehensive immigration reform could be passed.  He noted that the US needs immigrants to make her great and that illegal immigrants should not be rewarded for breaking the law.

The Senator met with local officials and attendees answering questions and visiting with those present.  When Randy Vivian, President/CEO of the Victoria Chamber of Commerce, was asked what it means for Victoria having Senator Cornyn come for an appearance, he stated  "Anytime someone of the Senator's stature comes to Victoria it is extremely important.  Our citizens want to know what's going on at the capitol and it gives the Senator a chance to find out the concerns of his constituency."

Senator Cornyn also met with County and Airport Officials to discuss issues relating to the Victoria Regional Airport and regional economic development.
