VISIONING THE FUTURE

From time to time it is important to take a step back, look where we have been and create for ourselves a new vision of where we are going as a community. Each year, The Victoria Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors does just that, revisits our community and our own strategic plan for success and looks for ways to bring our community’s vision closer to reality.

READY, SET, ACTION! Activity levels are definitely on the rise as we see construction of new retail outlets, expansion of area businesses, new hotels and restaurants and remodeling and renovation of current facilities. The new Port of Victoria offices housing the U.S. Coast Guard and Port administration and the development of the Port facility is exciting and a tribute to forward thinking management and successful partnerships.

Are we doing all that we can as a community to bring development to our region? Is our vision clear? Do we have a big enough vision to allow for future development? Do we embrace growth and prosperity? Understanding community development, embracing what needs to take place to make success a reality and having the courage, foresight and commitment to make the necessary investment in our future should be a priority in our community. Sometimes we do not set our sights high enough. Every time I hear the phrase “Oh, but we’re not Dallas… (or where ever) or Oh, it’s never been done that way”, I cringe. We cannot be what we cannot see. We cannot achieve greatness if we cannot see ourselves as great. We must appreciate our past while at the same time embracing our future.
