Golf
The city of Victoria has great golfing! For a city of 60,000, we have three of the finest courses in South Texas. Riverside Golf Course, run by the Parks Trust, is a public facility offering a heavily wooded park-style golf course that is playable for all levels of golfers at affordable prices. Riverside has 27 holes of golf and is host every year to two of the oldest amateur events in the County-the Wildgame Tournament in March and the Labor Day Invitational. Colony Creek Country Club, built in the mid-80's, is a semi-private facility. Colony Creek is a winding course routed through the Colony Creek subdivision and offers water and/or out of bounds on all 18 holes. The jewel of golf in Victoria, however, is the Victoria Country Club - one of the finest courses in South Texas and home to many Championship events each year. Designed in its current layout by Joe Finger, Victoria Country Club has hosted three Southern Texas PGA Championship events, the '94 Texas State Junior Boys, the '96 and '97 PGA Maxfli Junior Championship, the 2008 Texas State University Womens Intercolleagic and a TightLies Tour event annually. The Club also hosts the Tax Time Invitational in April and the Memorial Day Match Play Invitational, two of the oldest amateur events in Texas. Victoria Country Club is a private country club but allows reciprocal charges to certain other clubs with prior arrangements with the Golf Professional or General Manager.
Texas proudly displays ten different habitats ranging from humid marshes to dry desert mountains, and there are more than 700 species of animals found within these various regions. Texas supports 138 species of mammals. Twenty-three species ranging from black bears to small rodents are exhibited here. Two rare species of cats: margays and jaguarundis are also exhibited at the zoo. Reptiles and amphibians constitute a total of 225 species in Texas.
