On April 10th and 11th Victoria Preservation will hold its 24th Historic Homes Tour.  These very popular tours are just one more thing to lure tourists to Victoria !  What a great town - just overflowing with history!  The tours feature six historic structures.  This year the tour is entitled “Preserving The Past” and it promises to be a great tour.

Tours recently have alternated between the Victoria Heights Historic District (the northwest part of “old” Victoria , and the Original Townsite Historic District (downtown).  This year we are back near City Center and the tour will include:

O’Connor-Proctor Building - 202 N. Main

John C. Sigmund House  -  508 E. Santa Rosa

J. D. Mitchell House - 301 S. Bridge

Robert L. Lawrence House - 406 S. Liberty

Francis E. Huck House - 507 S. William

Dr. George M. Tyng House  -  302 E. Murray

The oldest structure on the tour is the J. D. Mitchell House, completed in 1893.  It is a grand Queen Anne confection, recently restored and stopping traffic at Bridge Street & Juan Linn.  The 1895 O’Connor-Proctor Building has been recently given a million dollar restoration.  You need to see this one!  1902 brought the construction of the John C. Sigmund House and Dr. George McAlpine Tyng’s residence.  Both stand restored, and are dripping with charm.  Francis E. Huck’s craftsman style bungalow features architectural details which were emerging from the late Victorian era; it is roomy and inviting.  The Robert L. Lawrence house, a Georgian style house, has graced
South Liberty Street
for 82 years now.  Take the tour and see how these historic structures are used today.
