Mayor Will Armstrong and County Judge Don Pozzi were the featured speakers at the April Chamber Luncheon hosted by Reliant Energy.  the Multi-purpose Room on the campus of University of Houston - Victoria was packed with over 150 people waiting to hear the state of the city and county. 

 

Mayor Armstrong told the crowd that the city has developed an outstanding team that is working together to push ahead vital infrastructure projects. 

 

He credited the City Manager and his staff for being forward thinking and working to make Victoria an exceptional place to live.  Armstrong also listed many of the projects that the city is working on and have completed in the last several years.  He also mentioned major projects that are on the horizon that will effect the city and surrounding area.  Mentioned were the Celeto Creek Power expansion and the Exelon Nuclear Project.   

 

County Judge Don Pozzi took the dias and seconded the mayor's assessment of the area economy.  Judge Pozzi spoke of the major changes that have happened and continue to happen at the Victoria Regional Airport.  He also spoke of the Exelon Nuclear Project and how transforming of our community it's building will be.  Judge Pozzi stated, "Although Exelon has stated that they have not committed to build the plant, our job is to make it as hard as possible for them to say no."

 

Both Pozzi and Armstrong spoke to the issue of the downward expansion of the University of Houston - Victoria.  Meaning the addition of freshman and sophomores to the already existing juniors and seniors at the campus.  Both are committed to seeking an answer from the UH System for or against downward expansion.  both talked favorabley of the expansion and it's benefits for Victoria and the surrounding region.

 

Senator Glenn Hegar, present at the event, and Rep. Geanie Morrison were thanked for their untiring support of Victoria.  Judge Pozzi recognized Sen. Hegar's accomplishments and committments to his constituents in Victoria County.
