Victoria Leaders Go To Austin and Washington Print E-mail
Friday, 28 March 2008
The Victoria Chamber of Commerce, President/CEO Randy Vivian along with Dale Fowler, VEDC, Mayor Will Armstrong and County Judge Don Pozzi made a trip to Austin to talk with State officials about Exelon.  The group went to discuss the communities support of nuclear power coming to the community.

The group met with many of the regulatory bodies that will be a part of the permitting process for Exelon.  They also were able to speak with Governor Rick Perry and Speaker Tom Craddick along with several key legislators that will be involved with the process. The group went to open a dialogue with our elected officials regarding the nuclear power plant in Victoria County.  They wanted them to know that there is a tremendous amount of support for the project and that community leaders are watching the process very closely.

Legislators were very supportive and are looking forward to helping Victoria with this project.  Many indicated that they knew about Exelon and their plans for development in South Texas.  The group told legislators that Victoria leaders are concerned that this project is done the right way with emphasis on environmental protection and community and state benefit.

In February, this group made a trip to Washington, DC, to let our national leaders know the same message.  They were able to speak with both Texas Senators and a majority of the Texas delegation in the House.
