Cinco de Mayo - La Celebracion at the Special Events Area in Riverside Park on May 7, 2011. The event opens at noon with a $5 adult admission until 6:00 pm and then $10 for the rest of the evening. Cinco de Mayo - La Celebracion is a musical celebration with highlights the Hispanic Culture. The Chamber uses the proceeds from this event to fund scholarship for deserving students at UHV and Victoria College. In the last 6 years, the Chamber has given over $60,000 in scholarships from this event.
The live musical entertainment will begin with Sarah Rivas performing earlier in the day at 2:00 pm, followed by 24-7 at 5:30 pm. Mingo Saldivar will take he stage at 6:30 pm, followed by Grupo Fantasma from Austin and finally Roger Creager will take the stage at 10:00 pm. Mariachis, Hip Hop Dancers, Ballet Folklorico and Zumba dancers will be on stage throughout the day.
Cinco de Mayo - La Celebracion will also host its 1st Annual Fajita Fiesta and BBQ Cookoff. Teams will compete in three categories: Fajitas, Pork Spare Ribs, and Brisket. There will also be Jackpot Beans and Beef Fajitas. Prizes will be First Place $300, Second Place $125 and Third Place $75. Come out and vie for the Championship or cheer on your favorite at the first ever Cinco de Mayo Fajita Fiesta and BBQ Cookoff. For more information call (361) 573-5277.
